True foresight lives in the stories shaping today.
Mutabor Storytelling Lab is a non-profit storytelling agency based in Yerevan, Armenia. We study how stories shape political discourse, leadership, and social change in contested environments, and we apply that data to help communities, organisations, and enterprises tell more powerful, credible stories.
Strategic storytelling for democratic, sustainable, and more peaceful futures.
Mutabor is the Latin for the “desire to change.” We are designing an environment for transformation through local storytelling practices and narratives in the South Caucasus region.
Caught between competing geopolitical influences, the South Caucasus has struggled to tell its own stories and shape its own vision of the future. Mutabor exists to fill that gap — in political, social, and cultural storytelling across the region.
We’ve seen that democratic resilience is deeply intertwined with the resilience of the stories a society tells itself. That’s why we’re committed to building ecosystems for democratic storytelling in the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, pushing back against the region’s growing authoritarianism.
Why storytelling?
Current global order evolved at the intersection of communications, democracy, technology, systems thinking, and foresight. Those fields all deal with complexity, uncertainty, and human behavior.
Today’s challenges are complex and interconnected. Storytelling helps turn fragmented information into clear, meaningful narratives that people can understand, remember, and act upon.
Stories create shared identity, trust, and belonging. They help organizations, communities, and leaders inspire collaboration, align around a common vision, and mobilize people toward change.
The future is shaped by the stories we believe. Through narrative foresight, storytelling helps explore possible futures, challenge assumptions, and imagine the opportunities we want to create.
Where we focus our work
Four interconnected objectives guide our research and practice — each one feeding insight and capacity back into the others as we work toward more resilient, democratic, and sustainable stories.
Democratic resilience
Community and entrepreneurship
Sustainable innovation
Story ecosystem research
How we do the work
Our practice moves from analysis to action — mapping story ecosystems, building strategic narratives, stress-testing them against the future, and training others to carry the work forward.
